MASSIVE REVIEW OF 2013

Tomorrow is the last day of 2013, and traditionally we are ready for a review of this fantastic and busy year. Last year we made a review of 2012 by choosing our best moments from all blogposts. This year we decided to wrap up our memories with the help of our Instagram account. Can you imagine that we made 913 photos in 2013? It's insane! :) That's the proof that 2013 was one of the craziest and busiest years we ever had. As the blogpost name already says, the review is MASSIVE, so be aware that it might take you some time to look through the all the photos. So, let's start in the beginning: In 2013 ...

... Sabinna lived in Paris and worked there for Dior. Then...

WINTER HEAD

Sometimes it can be quite hard to find perfect clothes and accessories for the winter season - they not only need to be pretty but also to keep you warm. Especially the head can be a problem: I (Sabinna) don't really like to wear hats, as it makes my hair look flat and weird afterwords. A few years ago I found a pretty little fake fur bag in a tiny store in Vienna. I really liked the colour and the shape, but wasn't in need of a bag at that time. So I decided to put it on my head (first just for fun) and see how it looks. And guess what? David and I both loved it! So I bought it and since then it became my favourite winter hat. Whenever I tell people that I am wearing a bag on my head, they get confused first. Then amused and surprised by the fact that it fits my head prefectly (I have to admit I have a huge head :) ). David keeps it classy and wears a beautiful knitted hat by Paul Smith. We guess no one can handle 2 people with bags on their head. :)

FROM A PAINTING - KAPENA O

We are going to keep it short today, as it's another family Christmas day! We hope you had all wonderful celebrations so far and are excited to show you a new "From a painting" post! It's not that cold in Vienna at the moment, but I still prefer to keep my feet as warm as possible. I have to admit I was never a huge fan of UGG boots, but somehow this lower version in black caught my eye and I decided to give it a try. And guess what? I really like it! :) Also as you might see I wear my hair in a different way - the illustration by Kapena O inspired me to try out a fringeless forehead. How do you like it?

MERRY CHRISTMAS, MERRY HAIR!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, dear girls and boys! And of course: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, dear David! :) Today we want to share with you Sabinna's Christmas hair and make you smile. We had a little walk through the 18th district in Vienna wearing that cute (and at the same time crazy) reindeer hair bun and you can't even imagine how many people we made smile today. :) Especially kids turned out to be deeply in love with this hair-do. What do you think about it?
So, lovelies, now we are now off for some Christmas and birthday celebrations! Have a lovely time with your families and may Santa Claus bring you a bunch of gorgeous presents wrapped up in loads and loads of love!

FROM A PAINTING 2013 REVIEW

Who doens't like to look back at the end of the year and reflect again on everything that happened? Well, we love doing that! Especially looking at old blogposts is fun. We checked the clicks and it turns out that your favourite posts of 2013 were mostly from our "From a painting" special. So we decided to give you a little review with all of them and to find out which one was the best so far? Our personal favourite is the Amanda Davies inspired look, it was so much fun recreating it. :)

FEET IN SOCKS - SOCKS IN SHOES

We are always excited when it comes to buying shoes. We try to think about how they look with a certain piece from the wardrobe or how the colours will fit the time of the year. But when it comes to socks or tights, we are both quite boring, we have to admit. Yes, you will find a few funky ones with some glitter flowers and maybe even some that fit the Christmas jumper. But the rest is black, black and black. So we decided to give it a try and put our feet into cool socks by the brand ITEM m6, that produces their products in Germany. We had the possibility to choose 2 pair of socks from their website and were a bit confused first, as we had to give the exact measures of our feet to find out what size is required. It took us a while but it was worth it, as we ended up having socks with the perfect fit. It feels a bit like being bare feet. In the photos below you can see how different the look is depending on the chosen shoes. A new lesson learned: don't underestimate your socks and tights. :)

POP-UP STORE AND PAPERBLANKS

Those who follow us on Facebook, know that our online shop is back! It's a pop-up store for 3 weeks, so make sure to order on time. :) As it's Christmas time and we love giving presents, we decided to combine the shopping experience with a give away. Thanks to Paperblanks the first 4 orders from now on, will get one of these beautiful calendars/notebooks. So, dear girls and boys, hurry and shop!! :)

DAVID'S BIRTHDAY PARTY a.k.a. POLAROID OVERLOAD

Oh god, where to start? :) As some of you know, David's birthday is on Christmas Eve, the 24th of December. This means that each year we celebrate Christmas and birthday on the same day = party overload. Usually we would do a party in London (we live here) and then sometimes also one in Vienna (we go there to visit our families for Christmas). Today we want to show you the polaroids from our London party last Friday, which turned out to be a huge success. Thanks again to everyone who came and made this night so magical!
At this point we would also like to talk about living in foreign countries, far away from your family. I (Sabinna) moved away 4 and a half years ago and I have to admit that it's one of the most exciting things that can happen to you but also one of the hardest. To start over in a new city and build your social life there can be very difficult. I was very lucky because I met a bunch of gorgeous people that made my life in London so great. All these people became our London family. London is such an international place and most of our friends moved here to fulfill their dreams. So this is something that we have in common and can share with each other. Some of our very close friends changed cities for another time and are now living in France or USA. And even if we don't get to see each other very often, we know that we can count on each other. Initially we didn't plan this post to become a love letter to our friends, but it turned out as one. :)

KOYA BAR LONDON

Yesterday we went out for dinner and decided to try out a cute little asian restaurant in Soho, called Koya Bar. A few friends of ours posted some images of their dinners there on Facebook and all of them looked absolutely delicious. So the expectations were huge. Those of you who live in London, know that it's absolutely normal to queue for a while before you get a table in a restaurant - same thing at Koya Bar. We were quite lucky though and got a table within 5 minutes. We ordered a starter to share and 2 Atsu-Atsu (Kitsune and Niku), you can see all the dishes in the photos. And the best thing is that our expectations were fulfilled - everything tasted wonderful! Also the size of the portions is very generous, there is no way you are going to leave this place hungry. The atmosphere is very chilled and relaxed, and the staff is super duper friendly. The only thing that we would change is the fact that they don't serve any dessert. We have to admit that's the first restaurant we have ever been to that doesn't offer desserts. If you are in London, you should definitely check this place out. We know we are coming back for sure. :)

BURGUNDY

It can be really hard to pick colours that actually suit your hair, skin or eyes. I have to admit that most of the time I end up bying black, white and grey clothes, as they seem to be easy to fit with the rest of the wardrobe. A few weeks ago we went to the amazing Dover Street Market sample sale and I found this gorgeous pair of Jil Sander heels that have this absolutely prefect burgundy colour. I fell in love and bought them (as you can imagine the price was really convincing too as it was a sample sale :) ). At home I realised that I have a lipstick in the same colour - a match made in heaven. I kind of feel that it doesn't matter anymore what I wear "between" the Jil Sander heels and my MAC lipstick, as the focus lies on burgundy.

FROM A PAINTING - PEGGY WOLF

Here is our late Sunday post, dear girls and boys! And guess what it is? Your favourite special 'From a painting'! :) Today's outfit inspiration comes from this beautiful illustration by Peggy Wolf. When we saw it for the first time, we immediately had to think about my (Sabinna) beloved coat and how awesome it would look with this hair-do and make-up. I spiced everything up with my beautiful bag by Vivienne Westwood and here we go: Sunday outfit inspired by a painting is ready. :) We know we say it in probably every single 'From a painting' post, but we will do it again: we love love love to recreate all these gorgeous and inspiring paintings, drawings and illustrations. Also thanks so much to those of you who send us suggestions for these special on our blog. Keep them coming, we love them! :)

OH PARIS - PART 2

Yesterday we showed you the first part of our awesome Paris trip, and as we promised, here is the second part! As you can see we managed to do quite a lot within this weekend - 3 museums, 5 restaurants, a million walks through 2 million streets and also some shopping of course. :) While editing the photos we were again hit by the wish to go back to Paris as soon as possible. So don't be surprised to meet us on the streets of Paris in 2014! :)

OH PARIS - PART 1

Those of you who follow us on Instagram and/or Facebook know that we spent an amazing weekend in Paris. We had sort of a family reunion there, as my (Sabinna) mum and sisters came to Paris from Vienna and met us there. I (Sabinna) used to live in Paris for a while and David came quite a lot to visit me, so we both know the city and its treasures quite well. Also we have to admit that we go there quite a lot for things like Paris Fashion Week, or to see wonderful places like the Louis Vuitton workshop and museum or to Sample Sales by Dior, Givenchy, etc... . Nevertheless we simply LOVE to come back for food, all the gorgeous museums and the outstanding beauty that Paris has to offer. When you live in London it's super easy to get to Paris with the Eurostar train - 2 hours and you are there! Amazing, isn't it? :) So we packed some pretty clothes and the most comfortable shoes we have and jumped on the train. Today we want to show you the first part of our lovely Paris trip, including some photos from Centre Pompidou. If you are in Paris any time soon, don't miss out on the "Surrealism and the object" exhibition there, it's fantastic! Tomorrow we will show you more Paris photos, so stay tuned! :)

DIY - CHRISTMAS/STAR WARS CANDLE COASTER

Christmas is soon and Star Wars is happening 24/7 in our flat, so we decided to combine these things and make a little DIY. First of all we need to thank our reader Caro, who inspired us by showing us this website and their great Star Wars snowflakes. Our flat is super small (like most of the flats in London we guess), so instead of putting paper snowflakes on our petit windows, we decided to do candle coasters instead. All you need for the DIY is:

WISHES AND TIME

The year 2013 is slowly coming to an end and Christmas and New Year are not so far from us. We guess that we are not the only ones who are looking back and making plans for 2014 - what do we want to keep for longer and what do we want to change in the next year? Scrolling through old posts actually helps quite well to reflect on all the things that happened within just a year. 2013 was the year of travels and incredibly hard work. We decided to compare 2013 to 2012 and realised a significant difference: There was so much more party going on in 2012! Our label Nightlife is full of posts with awesome photos of us sneaking around the streets of London, Vienna, Manchester and Paris. Parties and nightlife is something that we were really missing out on in 2013. Maybe it's because we just got older, or maybe it's because we worked so hard this year, we don't know ... but what we do know is that it has to change for 2014! :) We want that awesome party faces back in our lives. Let's see how this will work out as I am currently on my final year at Central Saint Martins and David is going to graduate  in 2014 from his MSc at UCL. Does 2014 sound like party? Not really ... but we keep dreaming. :) To visualise our dreams we made a selection of our favourite nightlife photos from 2012. Enjoy!

VINTAGE TREASURES IN LONDON

I love to look at clothes from other decades and get inspired by all the little details. That's why at least once a month I would make a tour through my favourite vintage places in London and hunt some treasures. Sometimes I am lucky to find a piece that I was looking for since ages. Just like it happened with these 2 gorgeous dresses, that you see in the photos. Both of them are original pieces from the 70s and are a great enrichment for my little vintage collection of clothes that I have so far. One day I am hoping to own a whole archive of these amazing garments that reflect the history of fashion. For those who are living in London or planning a trip to this magic place soon, here a little selection of my favourtite vintage stores:

1. Rellik8 Golborne Road, North Kensington, W10 5NW
2. Lucy in Disguise: 48 Lexington Street, Carnaby, W1F 0LR
3. Beyond Retro: 58-59 Great Marlborough Street, Central London, W1F 7JY
4. Blackout II51 Endell Street, Covent Garden, WC2H 9AJ

L O V E N O W

Today we want to show you a few things that we are currently obsessed with. The selection might seem to be quite random, but we just followed our hearts and picked pieces that made our lives awesome in the past month. Winter is coming, therefore we need some warm clothes, good shoes and glittery socks. We are also saving up money for Christmas presents in a very classy cash box, writing down ideas in a funky notebook and just never ever, seriously never ever, get enough of flowers.

CLIP IN

A lot of you lovely girls were asking me to make another post about my hair (check out the last one here) and so here it is. Maybe it's not as you expected it to be, but I hope that you still like it. :) I want to show you my absolute favourite hair accessories: my magic hair clips. You can get them at Boots or Superdrug in London and DM or Bipa in Vienna. I don't really like to use hair ties as they seem to damage my hair and they are more likely to break. Instead I use these clips to create all sort of hairstyles. Here are some samples of how I like to wear them, but of course there are around 100 more options.

VIENNA LOVE AND OTHER STORIES

So, we just came back from Vienna and we are tired as hell! Really looking forward to have a proper sleep after these exciting days! But before we do that, we wanna share a little post with you about our days in Vienna. As you know we won the 2nd place in the Austrian Blogaward competition and on Tuesday we were invited to the NEWS Verlag building to get the award and celebrate. The view from the 18th floor was absolutely gorgeous and we enjoyed an awesome sunset. We say once again: Thank you so much to all of you guys for reading our blog and for all your awesome feedback and amazing comments. It has been a long journey so far and we are already excited for the future. We hope you stay with us and keep being a part of the broken cookies planet! :)

Ps: We contacted the winners of our Caseable x Broken Cookies Give Away! Congrats to Carina, Mary and Kaja!

FROM A PAINTING - TAMARA DE LEMPICKA

And here we go, time for a new 'From a paniting' post! We both have to say that we love shooting these posts, it is always so much fun to recreate all these wonderful paintings and to get outfit inspirations in such an unusual way. It is quite hard to make it look exactly like the painting, but to be honest, it's not about that anyway. It's more about capturing the mood and the feelings around it. Today's outfit inspiration comes from one of our absolutely favourite artists, Tamara de Lempicka. We could look for hours at her wonderful paintings of these gorgeous women. For the outfit I had to borrow David's wonderful Lanvin sweater (that was an amazing find at the sample sale in Paris) that fits perfectly my favourite lipstick

MOVE YOUR ASS

We are both absolutely addicted to suits. And we guess that those of you who follow us since a while, know that we both own quite a few lovely pieces. Recently we were thinking about the way blogger present heir outfits. Usually you would stand still or walk from right to left or maybe even strike a pose with the perfect face impression. We decided to forget about all these typical blogger poses and try out something else. We suited up and moved our asses. In the end we were surprised ourselves how different clothes can look in movement. :)

SUNDAY BLUES AND LOVES

We had a hell of a week with so much going on, that we didn't even have time to update the blog for you guys! Sorry about that. We still managed to use Facebook and Instagram though and that's why you probably all know what we have been up to anyway. :) Today we want to show you some photos that David took of me in the jacket, that I recently designed and made. And also we wanted to tell you some news: We won the second place at the Austrian Fashion and Lifestyle Blogaward competition! We feel very honoured and it is great to see our blog Broken Cookies in the top 3, as it isn't a typical fashion and lifestyle blog. DEDICATED TO #FOODPORN

Today's post is dedicated to food and its famous Instagram hashtag #foodporn. We have to admit that it became super normal for us to take photos of every bloody thing we eat. On one side it is super scary on the other it's kind of fun. Sometimes I ask myself why is it so popular to share your lunch, dinner or snack with the rest of the world? Or why do we enjoy ourselves scrolling through Instagram and checking on other's people food behaviour? Personally for us it's often about getting inspired and trying out new things. If we see something super delicious, we wanna cook it as well and may discover new products that we never tried before. Or if someone recommends a restaurant and adds a photo of what they offer there, we can decide quicker wether or not to try it out too. So, dear girls and boys, don't stop sharing your food with us and we won't do it either. So enjoy this huge overload on foodporn! Wanna check out our favourite restaurants? Jump over here to our London favs and Vienna favs!

FROM A PAINTING - AMEDEO MODIGLIANI

We have to admit that we are always super happy when the time comes for a new 'From a painting' post. It is just so much fun to find outfit and hairstyle inspirations in paintings. Today's look is inspired by the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. The painting is called "Madame Hayden" and is from the year 1918.

CHINATOWN LONDON

Today's post is about a lovely part in London, that we love to visit: Chinatown
Great restaurants, crazy waving cats, a lot of pink and red colours, chinese supermarkets and things that you have never seen before - you will find it all in Chinatown! So doesn't matter if you are a tourist or you actually live in London like us, you should definitely visit this awesome place! :)

LONDON OVERLOAD

London is such a great place to live - everything about this city is inspiring: the streets, the people, even the weather sometimes. :) You know that we travel a lot and that we have lived in several different cities so far (Moscow, Valladolid, Vienna, Paris, Manchester) but it is always such a pleasure to come (back) to London. Hopefully we can spend a few more years in this city of our dreams. Today we have a little London overload for you and want to show you some photos that we took in the past 3 weeks. If you want to follow our London adventures more closely, then swing over to our Instagram. :)

PREPARE

We don't trust the weather and always wanna be prepared in advance. Prepared for cold nights, prepared for snow, prepared for winter. That's why we don't leave 'winter-shopping' until last minute and prefer to do it in advance. Sabinna tried on a million different coats and finally found the perfect fit. This &Other Stories coat is a magical 2 in 1 piece: You can unzip it and it becomes a short jacket! Impossible not to fall in love. :)

FAVOURITE JEWELLERY PIECES

When choosing an outfit, never underestimate little things such a the hair tie or clip, the choice of the bracelet or colour of the ring. These details are more important than we can imagine. Sabinna shows you some of her current favs - all pieces are very simple but special.

FROM A PAINTING - RYAN PICKART

Sorry that we didn't post anything for a while, we have been super busy. As an excuse for this long absence we prepared your favourite special: From a painting! Today's artist choice is Ryan Pickart. We thought that Sabinna's DIY flower sweater looks very similar to the one the beautiful lady in the painting is wearing. So here is the outfit inspired from a painting.

LET'S CATCH UP.

So what is actually up in our lives? We thought it's time for a little catch up post to tell you what goes on in the life of Broken Cookies. :) We are back in London now and are excited about what comes ahead of us. David successfully graduated from Vienna University of Economics and Business and is now starting his MSc in Computer Science at UCL. So as you can see super busy times are waiting for us, but we promise we will keep you updated as much as possible and share with you our exciting journey. :) Today we have some polaroids for you, that we took back in Vienna. It's just so comfortable to use a Fuji Instant camera when you go out - it fits in every bag and creates amazing memories that you can straight away put up on your wall. :)

FROM A PAINTING - KATIE RODGERS

COMFY WALKING

David loves to wear comfy shoes, while Sabinna prefers high heels, doesn't matter how much they hurt.  :) It's always quite hard to find pretty flats, that would match Sabinna's wardrobe, but finally we solved this problem: Vans for girls and boys. We already showed you our special video for Sarenza, involving pretty sneakers for men, women and kids. Here another day without any feet ache - we can get used to that. :)

ONE COAT - 4 AFFAIRS

Recently Sabinna bought this coat, that turned out to be magical. It's not only warm and super soft, it also has an absolutely amazing graphical print. Additional to that Sabinna discovered its different sides - you can wear it as a coat, dress, half skirt and asymmetric dress. With a piece like that, it's not that hard to say goodbye to summer. :)

VIDEO // THE FORCE OF THE SHOES

We are so so excited about this post! Seriously, we have never been that excited about showing you something, dear girls and boys. As you know recently we did a video for the online shop Sarenza. It turned out to be a success, thanks for all the great feedback! So we decided to take the whole thing to a new level and shoot another video for Sarenza. A huge thanks to Sabinna's little twin sisters, who are starring in this video. They did such a great job, that the result looks even better than expected. They are both wearing Vans Kids shoes and are fighting for another 2 pairs of sneakers by Vans. Additional to the video we want to show you our ways of styling sneakers with classy suits. But enough talking, time to watch the video! :)

You can take a look at his work here. We are in love with these mysterious photos with a little Star Wars touch. How do you like them?

SUNDAYS

Summer Sundays in Vienna are absolutely wonderful. You can drive to a lake or the woods, have a picknick in the sun and meet friends for a chat. Today we had the possibility to try out the Lancia Ypsilon and drive to Burggarten for a wonderful time with some other Austrian bloggers (in the last photo you can see the lovely Catherine, Pia and Maximilian).
We tried their online app to book the car for our trip and we have to admit that we were surprised how easy it works. All you need to do is going on their Facebook page, selecting a car dealer and entering your contact details. Then someone from Lancia will contact you to confirm your booking - now you are ready to go. :)
We hope you also had such a wonderful weekend! By the way: You have now the possibility to shop our looks by clicking on the photos at the end of the post. How do you like it?

LOMOGRAPHY KONSTRUKTOR

Our camera collection has a new member: Konstruktor by Lomography.
It's an analogue camera that comes in a lovely little package and is separated in hundred little parts. The deal about this babe is that you need to build it yourself. We need to admit that we had some troubles with the assembling process, as the manual is not written really well as a lot of little steps are merged into one image - which is not always easy to understand. Nevertheless it was great fun building the camera and after about an hour of sweating we finally could hold this beauty in our hands. We also took the chance to customize it and add some Broken Cookies details on it. Below you can see the result plus a video of the building process. Soon we will show you some photos that we took with the Konstruktor. How do you like the idea of building your own camera?

DISPOSABLES

We are back in Vienna and today we want to show you some analogue photos that we took with a disposable camera. It's not a secret that we have a whole collection of awesome cameras, that's why people are often surprised to see us using disposable ones. The reason why we love them too is really simple - you can party as hard as you want without being scared of loosing or breaking your favourite camera babes. Instead you have a one-night-stand with a disposable camera. :)

We hope you missed us, just as we missed you and that you are ready for new fun on the Broken Cookies planet. A lot of great new projects are ahead of us and we are super excited to share them with you soon! In the meantime tell us what you were up to since our last post?

VIDEO // HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE

Recently we have been playing around with videos and posted a DIY and a Vienna city guide so far. Judging by the feedback that we got from you, it seems like you wanna see more videos on our blog, so we give you more! :) For our cooperation with Sarenza, an online shop for shoes and accessories, we made a video featuring Sabinna's heels by Vivienne Westwood for Melissa and David's sneakers by Lacoste. We are excited to show it to you and hear what you think about it! :)

TRAVELS OF 2013

Those of you who follow us for a while know by now that we love to travel. We travel to cities to study there, to live there, to see each other or just for holidays. And we always bring our cameras... and we somehow also bring all of you with us. :) We take a million pictures to share them with you. Now it's time for a little review of our travels in 2013. Since January we have been to Paris, Khao Lak, Bangkok, London, New York, Vienna and as you know Sabinna is in Sardegna at the moment. Next stops are Majorca and Prague and we are super excited! Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to travel with us! :)

FISH EYE MEETS SABINNA'S IPHONE

As you might know, last week was Sabinna's birthday. She got a lot of absolutely awesome presents, and we want to show you one of them here, as we think that it might be interesting for you. Our friend Alice gave Sabinna a fish eye lens that you can attach to your iPhone and take great fish eye photos with it. It is super easy to handle and fits every purse, we must admit that we fell in love with the fact that a phone camera offers us new possibilities. The whole thing is available here and the price is quite reasonable too. Here are a few shots that we made in Vienna and in Sardegna using the fish eye lens. What do you think about this cute little eye for smartphones?

We started our holiday season and have now some travelling ahead us! Sabinna is in Sardegna at the moment and enjoys this magical place that can be called paradise. Excuse us if we don't update our blog as often as we usually do, but you can always follow us on Instagram or Facebook where we post stuff every day. :)
